Everything that people consider garbage I see it as a valuable working material.
gizmos… The ideas for my works are born in the work tables of the plumbers, electricians and locksmiths, and the people who patch objects of daily use. It is typical of the Cuban to not discard things that don’t work anymore, because it is perfectly useful to repair other things. The lack of spare parts and poor infrastructure of the service companies give free rein to Cuban ingenuity. They will make do with what they can. You just have to look at the cars from the 40's and 50’s that are still running. I think this is something imperative in order to understand my work. Each work is part of a story or someone I know, sometimes trying to make a social portrait from the language of the materials. These works are a social reflection on a very close, very personal scale as I see my environment and how it interacts in the various practices and strategies that define us as Cubans and make us an ingenious people. Additionally, these works bring with them a message that it is very important to recycle, to re-utilize materials that many consider waste. This is an important theme in my work. Trash does not exist, it is simply the disorder of the human being, I am very aware of it and it pushes me to see art in everything that surrounds me. artilugios......
